Lance Herman, born 1981 started playing guitar at the age of 10. Shortly thereafter, formed his first band with school friends including Paul Ressel (Lark / Vuvuvultures) and filmmaker Ari Kruger.  The band was called Dry Water, and went on to win a few Battle of the Bands competitions, and record 2 demo casettes, at Cape Town recording studios such as Street Level (CBD) and Tin Pan Alley (in Rondebosch) The boys were 13 yrs old.  After school, Lance and his friend Josh Ginsburg started a band called Fly Paper Jet, which went on to record 2 albums, achieve national radio play on stations such as 5FM, & perform at major festivals including Kirstenbosch Summer Concerts, & with high profile artist such as the Soweto String Quartet.A brief intermission from music 2008 - 2010. saw Lance study for a Master's degree in English Literature, focusing on the creative fiction of South African Nobel Laureate J.M. Coetzee. Lance graduated in 2010 with the MA Degree Cum Laude, and the following year (2011) became the recipient of a prestigious Artist Fellowship at the Gordon Institute for Performing & Creative Arts (GIPCA), affiliate to the University of Cape Town. 

It was on this fellowship program that Lance produced an inter-disciplinary, art & performance project called Eliezer. The project ran from 2011-2013, showcasing at the Grahamstown National Arts Festival & received exceptional reviews.

Currently (2014)  Lance divides his time between writing & producing music at a commercial level (artists, corporates, producers), writing & recording his own songs & compositions, and gigging around SA.
